Maj. General H. Michael Edwards, the last man standing still in uniform from Class of ’73, will step down on March 31st from his position as the state’s adjutant general.

Gov. John Hickenlooper announced Edwards’ retirement on Thursday, January 26th. Edwards held the position since 2007, overseeing thousands of Army and Air national guard personnel. They respond to domestic emergencies and are on call for active duty.

Edwards is a 43-year military veteran and a 1973 graduate of the Air Force Academy. He has flown the A-7, F-4, F-16 and other aircraft.

Hickenlooper expressed gratitude for Edwards’ service and is currently searching for his successor.
