Join Wings Over the Rockies Exploration of Flight for monthly fly-ins featuring planes, pilots and breakfast!

On the first Saturday of every month, enjoy breakfast from a local food truck, watch aircraft fly in and explore interactive exhibits and simulators.

Join us at 11:00 a.m. for a presentation from John Penney, pilot and air racer.

John Penney was a combat pilot for the US Air Force and graduated Top Gun. He flew interdiction and close-air-support missions throughout Southeast Asia, completing 139 combat missions, 398 combat hour, and earned the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal. He started flying for United Airlines in 1985, where his role was check captain on Boeing B-737-300, B-757 and B-767 aircraft, on domestic and international routes.

Penney began piloting “Rare Bear” in 1985 and won numerous air races, including the Phoenix 500 Air Races and the Reno Air Races. In 1996 he set a speed record that wasn’t beat until six years later. In 1994 and 1996, Penney was awarded the Pulitzer Trophy for Air Racing in the Unlimited Class.
