Hiller XROE-1 Rotorcycle

Hiller XROE-1 Rotorcycle

Creative inventors and engineers proposed a great many innovative ideas in the 1950s., including this one: when an American pilot gets shot down behind enemy lines, why not drop a simple, lightweight helicopter that the pilot could just unfold, start up, and fly back to friendly territory? The Hiller prototype worked, but there were too many problems with the project, so it was canceled. This is one of seven that survived.

Sustain the Wings this Colorado Gives Day!

“Sustineo Alas” means “I sustain the Wings.” When you give, you’ll join the community of supporters who have fueled Wings Over the Rockies™ work for 30 years.

Your gift of any amount will power transformative educational programs, engaging exhibits, the restoration of historic aircraft and more. When you give $360 or more or commit to monthly donations of $30, we’ll send you our exclusive 30th anniversary Sustineo Alas hat as a token of our appreciation.

Every donation you make through December 10 can help Wings Over the Rockies unlock additional funding through the Colorado Gives Foundation and FirstBank.
