Link Trainer

Link Trainer

Today’s sophisticated flight simulators are the descendants of Edwin Link’s efforts to make flying safer in the 1930s. The Link trainer enabled pilots to learn basic procedures and practice flying on instruments without the expense and risks of flying real airplanes. During World War II, over a half million Americans and tens of thousands of Allied airmen sharpened their instrument flight skills in Link trainers, which were often operated by female instructors.
