Colorado Air National Guard Room

Colorado Air National Guard Room

Located just 7 miles east of Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum, Aurora’s Buckley Air Force Base is the home to the 140th Wing of the Colorado Air National Guard (COANG). COANG comprises four groups, 11 squadrons and two geographically separated units (GSUs). The 1500 personnel make up four separate Air Force Command units that provide our nation with fighter, airlift and support forces capable of global employment*.

The Colorado Air National Guard Heritage Committee has assembled a fascinating collection of artifacts, photos, and paintings that chronicle the unit’s history from its creation in 1923 as one of the very first air units in the National Guard, through the 1950s, when our “Minute Men” jet demonstration team became the official aerobatic team for the National Guard and rivaled the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds, to their combat deployments in Vietnam and the Gulf Wars.

The Colorado Air National Guard truly goes “A Mile Higher”.
