Wizard Ultralight Airplane

Wizard Ultralight Airplane

As hang gliders became popular in the 1970s, pilots sought to stay aloft longer by attaching lightweight, low-power engines and propellers to their aircraft. As the idea spread, the FAA developed some minimal regulations to separate ultralights from heavier aircraft, which required pilot licenses, inspections, certifications, and adherence to more complex FAA regulations. Ultralight development diverged from simple hang gliders—rather than hanging, ultralight pilots typically sat on seats, and rather than landing on the pilots’ feet, ultralights had landing gear. The Wizard is typical of the ultralights developed in the early 1980s.
