Wings Over the Rockies™ Partners with Reach Out and Read
Local nonprofit to host book drive in March
Denver, CO (March 1, 2022) – Wings Over the Rockies (Wings) is proud to announce an initiative to help collect new or gently-used children’s books for kids in the community. In partnership with local nonprofit Reach Out and Read Colorado, Wings will host a children’s book drive, called Operation Fill-A-Plane, from March 1-31 to benefit Reach Out and Read Colorado.
As part of the initiative, those who bring in new or gently-used children’s books to either Wings location will receive $10.00 off a Wings Annual Membership. Donated books will be given to Reach Out and Read Colorado, who partners with pediatricians to give young children in Colorado a foundation for success by incorporating books into pediatric care and encouraging families to read aloud together.
“Community support from partners like Wings Over the Rockies is essential to our success,” says Anne Tengler, Executive Director of Reach Out and Read Colorado. “We receive and redistribute close to 100,000 gently used books every year, which build home libraries for kids of all ages, from every county in the state. Without this support, families would have significantly fewer resources to ignite the dreams and aspirations of our next generation of learners, creators and leaders. Thank you for helping their dreams take flight!”
“We are thrilled to be partnering with Reach Out and Read Colorado, since we share a common interest in inspiring young minds and creating impactful educational opportunities,” said Wings President and CEO, Maj Gen John Barry, USAF (Ret). “Similar to flight, reading can transport you to other places and fuel your imagination, and we are honored to help connect our local community with more books and opportunities to learn.”
Books should meet the following criteria:
- New or gently used (covers and pages intact, clean and unmarked pages)
- Age range includes infants through young adults
- No textbooks
- No used coloring or activity books
- No books with sensitive themes such as death, religion, divorce or abuse
Please bring your children’s books to Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum at 7711 E. Academy Blvd. in Denver or Exploration of Flight at 13005 Wings Way in Englewood during operational hours from March 1-31. For more information, visit WingsMuseum.org/Membership.
