Thousands of these rugged, reliable, and economical airplanes did an outstanding job of training pilots for World War II, but they’ve brought pure joy and simple pleasure for generations of pilots. In the 1950s and 60s, bright yellow Cubs were so common that “Piper Cub” became the generic term for all light airplanes.
