This supersonic twin-engine fighter was originally designed by Grumman as a counter-measure to MiG fighters seen in air combat during the Vietnam War. Touting air-to-air missiles as well as an M61 Vulcan 20mm rotary cannon, the F-14’s weapons system was so sophisticated it was able to track and engage up to six targets at once. The aircraft on display at Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum spent most of its time as a training and evaluation aircraft for VF-211, the Fighting Checkmates on board the USS John C. Stennis.
Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum features more than 50 aircraft and space vehicles. Visit us to see the full collection.
