The Apollo 15 lunar sample was gifted by NASA to honor John Leonard “Jack” Swigert, a Colorado native who flew on the troubling Apollo 13 flight. This sample is one of 842 pounds of moon rock on the Earth, 170 pounds having been collected by Apollo 15 (NASA, 2016). This lunar sample was presented as part of the “Colorado Astronauts” exhibit, in which 64 Colorado astronauts are remembered for their achievements in space.
Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum features more than 50 aircraft and space vehicles. Visit us to see the full collection.
