Wing Over the Rockies™ Announces Expansion to its Wings Aerospace Exploration Pathway Education Program
Denver, CO (Aug. 1, 2024) – Wings Over the Rockies (Wings) is excited to announce they have received a grant to support an expansion of its Wings Aerospace Exploration (WAE) Pathway education curriculum to their Exploration of Flight campus at Centennial Airport. A parent information night will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 6th at 6:00 p.m. at Wings Museum in Lowry, 7711 East Academy Blvd Denver, CO 80230.
“We are thrilled to launch the Wings Aerospace Exploration Pathway at Exploration of Flight which represents our commitment to expanding opportunities that will continue to inspire and educate students who wish to pursue a career in aerospace,” said John Barry, President and CEO of Wings Over the Rockies.
The Wings education team will build on five plus years of experience with the WAE Pathway at Lowry to implement the new programming which will focus on high-level aviation and aerospace career exploration for high school students.
The first WAE-Centennial school year kicks off in fall of 2024 with students ranging in grades from 9-12. The program will meet each Monday over two 15-week semesters. Registration for the 2024-25 school year is still open and more details can be found at WingsMuseum.org/WAE-Centennial.
Students can choose between two courses with an array of topics. The topics are divided between the two courses below:
- Drone Pilot Course which prepares students to fill a critical role as FAA certified commercial drone pilots in a variety of industries, with support from at least four industry professionals as mentors, flight instructors, and career coaches.
- Private Pilot Course provides students with the basic flight skills to prepare them for advanced studies to become commercial, corporate or military pilots.
Students will receive six hours of instruction, one day per week and receive at least 30 hours of instruction on each of their chosen topics. Students can mix and match their topics for both courses based on their interests. The goal of this new “WAE-Centennial” location is to expand each year to eventually include a curriculum for middle school students.
