Warbird Weekend Lets Visitors Fly in Authentic WWII Aircraft

DENVER, CO | August 7, 2026 — Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum® will bring aviation history to life Sept. 5 – 6 during Warbird Weekend, a two-day celebration of historic WWII-era aircraft at Exploration of Flight on Centennial Airport. The event, presented as part of Colorado’s 150/250 celebration, will offer visitors the chance to get up close to historic warbirds and, for an additional cost, experience the rare opportunity to fly aboard authentic aircraft.

Featured airplanes include the TBM Avenger, a WWII-era U.S. Navy torpedo bomber, and the SNB-5 “Sonoran Beauty,” a rare Beechcraft Twin Beech that served the U.S. Navy beginning in WWII. Additional warbirds will also be on display throughout the weekend.

“Warbird Weekend gives people the opportunity to experience aviation history in a way that goes far beyond seeing an airplane in a museum,” said David Dickerson, President and CEO of Wings Over the Rockies. “These aircraft are living pieces of history, and getting close to them, hearing them run and, for those who choose to purchase a flight, experiencing them in the air creates a connection that lasts a lifetime.”

During the public event Saturday and Sunday, guests can participate in ground tours, interact with aviation experts and explore the historic aircraft on the tarmac. Flight experiences are not included with general admission and require a separate purchase. Flights are limited and may sell out.

Warbird Weekend takes place Sept. 5 – 6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Exploration of Flight, located on Centennial Airport in Englewood.

Friday, Sept. 4, will serve as Media Day, allowing credentialed media to photograph and film the aircraft on the ground and interview aviation experts. Media will also have the opportunity to fly aboard the historic aircraft as part of their coverage, subject to availability and scheduling.
