Wright Brothers Exhibit

Explore the legacy of the Wright brothers and delve into the innovative minds and groundbreaking experiments that allowed humans to fly! Discover how Orville and Wilbur approached the challenge of flight using advanced scientific observations and experiments.

Experience what it was like for Orville Wright on that very first flight in December 1903 by climbing aboard our new Wright Flyer Simulator! You’ll feel the vibration and hear the sound of an actual Wright engine as you guide the fragile Flyer off the sands of Kitty Hawk and through the sky.

Overhead is a full-sized replica of the 1902 Wright glider that led the Wrights to the first powered flight a year later. This replica is an actual flyer, too, having flown hundreds of times!

This enhanced exhibit is included in the price of museum admission and is made possible by The Bates Family Foundation.

Earn your Aviation Merit Badge!

Join us as you learn about aerospace basics, pilot your course or flying adventure without ever leaving the ground, build a glider from a foam plate and experience the Wings Over the Rockies Flight Simulator Room. Our penguin class also includes a tour of the Air & Space Museum!

The cost of this experience is $25. Please bring a sack lunch. Adults can sit in if space is available and should not register for the class, but instead must pay the museum entry fee.

Please bring your worksheet and a pen to the class. Using resources on the back of the homework, consider three careers in aviation that excite you. Choose the one you are interested in and list the education, training and experience you need for the job!

We are pleased to offer a more comfortable museum experience for our friends who have sensory processing sensitivities and their families.

We welcome those with children, teenagers and adults with processing disorders and other cognitive disabilities, including anyone on the autism spectrum, to experience our exhibits in a lower sensory environment.
